Central Greatness In Arsenal History – Arsenal is fully prepared to win the 2023/2024 Premier League title. The failure in the previous season made Mikel Arteta and his team not want to fall into the same mistakes. Last season, Arsenal almost won the 2022/2024 Premier League, but had to settle for being in second place due to slipping at the end of the match.
islschedule – Currently, in week 26, the Gunners who are in third place in the standings are only two points behind Liverpool who occupy the top position, 58 versus 60.
The last time, Gudang Bullet won the English League in the 2003/2004 season. This success certainly cannot be separated from the quality of the players they have, at least in the last few seasons. On the Premier League stage, the team which was founded in October 1886 is very lucky to have some of the best players. Including when they achieved extraordinary success in the historic Invincibles season, going unbeaten in 38 Premier League matches in 2003/2004.
Now, under Arteta’s direction, fans hope and pray that Bukayo Saka and his colleagues can repeat the achievements of their predecessors. Talking about achievements, of course it cannot be separated from the hard efforts of all the players, especially the defensive players. Their role is very important.
1. Thomas Vermaelen
If Thomas Vermaelen was recruited to be the type of elegant defender whose skills he had honed at Ajax, then his incredible goal tally in the first few weeks and months of his career came as a surprise to many.
The former Belgium international has a great left foot. As well as being useful in defense, he is often capable of delivering impressive long-range kicks when attacking.
The defender may not have had the brightest career at the Emirates, due to injuries. However, he is clearly one of the best center backs the Gunners have.
2. Laurent Koscielny
One of the most consistent players in the Emirates era. Laurent Koscielny’s evolution from someone who was often careless and out of position to a precise and fast central defender deserves to be appreciated.
This French player even received the honor of captain at the Emirates. He also scored the crucial equalizing goal in a thrilling comeback win over Hull City in the 2014 FA Cup final.

The centre-back’s final season at the club came under the management of Unai Emery. He fought hard despite having to overcome injury to take the Gunners to the Europa League final, but lost to Chelsea.
3. Gabriel Magalhaes
It could be said that Gabriel Magalhaes is one of the most underappreciated players in the current Arsenal team. The North London side have looked more solid since Mikel Arteta brought him back after the first few weeks of the Premier League season.
They have to ensure Rice stays fit, and the idea of not playing Gabriel Magalhaes at the start of the season is an experiment that will not be repeated. The two centre-backs – Gabriel and William Lintasa – were vital against Man City, impressing against a world-class player in their position, Erling Haaland.
Gabriel has demonstrated his qualities since moving from Ligue 1 club Lille, and can be seen as one of the vocal leaders at the back. While his centre-back partner may now be getting the most praise, Arsenal fans are clearly not ignoring the Brazilian. His aerial dominance has made him the highest scoring defender in the Premier League since his arrival.
4. Martin Keown
Martin Keown has always been a reliable and steadfast figure. He is always ready to be taken into account by Arsene Wenger when needed.
It wasn’t just Keown’s defensive ability that impressed the former Arsenal manager from France.
“First of all, I realize that I am at a special club with class, tradition and a certain desire to behave above average,” said Wenger.
“What I found was that I had an idea of the players – Adams, Keown, Dixon and Winterburn. They were limited but they turned out to be much better than expected,” he added.
5. Per Mertesacker
Per Mertesacker was brought in in the summer of 2011 as Arsenal looked to rebuild the team following the sad departures of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri.
The towering centre-back quickly emerged as a favorite among fans. He scored a beautiful header against Tottenham to seal his place in the hearts of the Gunners faithful.
Forming one of Arsenal’s best centre-back partnerships in recent years with Laurent Koscielny, Mertesacker made up for his lack of pace with intelligent positioning and aggressive defending.
His performance in the 2017 FA Cup final victory over Chelsea was undeniably his most brilliant moment while in an Arsenal uniform.
His performance was such that people nicknamed him the ‘Final Mertesacker’.
